Summary of the episode
The episode begins with Xena returning to her home village of Amphipolis after years of being a ruthless warlord. She intends to bury her weapons and armor and start a new life as a peaceful farmer. However, she is met with hostility and fear by her former neighbors, who blame her for bringing war and destruction to their lands.
Meanwhile, a nearby village called Potidaea is being attacked by Draco (Jay Laga'aia), another warlord who wants to enslave its people. Among them is Gabrielle, a spirited young woman who dreams of leaving her boring life and becoming a storyteller. She witnesses Xena's arrival and is fascinated by her courage and skills.
Xena decides to intervene and stop Draco's raid, despite her reluctance to fight again. She confronts Draco in a one-on-one duel on a high platform, where they agree that whoever falls off first will leave Potidaea alone. Xena manages to defeat Draco by using her signature weapon, a circular metal disc called a chakram, which she can throw and catch with precision.
Xena then leaves Potidaea, but Gabrielle follows her secretly, hoping to join her as a traveling companion. Xena initially rejects Gabrielle's offer, but eventually agrees to let her tag along after saving her from a band of thugs.
On their way to Amphipolis, Xena and Gabrielle encounter a cyclops (Patrick Wilson) who holds a grudge against Xena for blinding him in one eye years ago. Xena tricks him into falling into a pit and escapes with Gabrielle.

When they arrive at Amphipolis, Xena is reunited with her mother Cyrene (Darien Takle), who runs an inn. Cyrene is not happy to see Xena, as she blames her for the death of her son Lyceus, who died fighting alongside Xena against the warlord Cortese. Xena tries to explain that she has changed, but Cyrene refuses to listen.
Xena learns that Draco is planning to attack Amphipolis next, as he wants to take revenge on her for humiliating him. She decides to stay and defend her village, even though most of the villagers do not trust her. She also discovers that her old friend Maphias (David Te Rare) is working as a spy for Draco, and he warns her that Draco has a secret weapon: a catapult that can launch fireballs.
Xena organizes the villagers into a militia and teaches them how to fight. She also convinces Cyrene to forgive her and support her. Gabrielle helps by using her storytelling skills to inspire the villagers and boost their morale.
Draco arrives with his army and launches his attack. Xena leads the villagers in a fierce battle against Draco's men. She also manages to destroy the catapult by throwing her chakram at it. She then faces Draco again in another duel, this time on a balance beam over a pit of spikes. Xena defeats Draco again, but spares his life, telling him to leave and never come back.
The episode ends with Xena and Gabrielle leaving Amphipolis together, as Xena decides to continue her journey of redemption and adventure. Gabrielle tells Xena that she wants to be like her, and Xena tells Gabrielle that she has something that Xena doesn't: innocence.
